A Fragrant Tour of Nosegays and Corsages at the Met

$75.00

Wearing flowers pinned to clothing dates as far back as Ancient Greece, when small bunches of fragrant flowers and herbs were worn at weddings to ward off evil spirits. During the 16th and 17th centuries, corsages and boutonnières were a part of daily life to prevent disease and to ward off unpleasant smells. They also sent messages of one's feelings and intentions from the sender to the reciever, as in The Languae of Flowers.

The six paintings from the European Collection are brought to life with fragrance from paper and fabric flowers instilled with the distilled essence of the painted bouquet. Each guest will leave with a tiny scented nosegay.

A ticket for this two hour gallery tour includes access to the rest of the Met after the event.(Saturday hours: 10 AM-9 PM).
