Not So Shrinking Violet Natural Perfume
Capturing the elusive violet has been a challenge to the perfumer for centuries. The unique, sweet fragrance of the flowers is because of the predominance of ionones which temporarily desensitize the receptors in the nose. Ionones were first isolated from Parma violets in 1893 which enabled the extensive production of violet fragrances.
You'll be using the naturally isolated alpha and beta ionones and other materials such as orris root, cassie, violet leaf absolute and boronia to develop your own violet perfumes.
Violet is one of my favorite notes. My mother wore Yardley April Violets when I was growing up so it has a lovely motherly scent memory for me. I have a vintage sample of April Violets to share with you along with many other classic, natural and modern perfumes including my favorite, Borsari's Violetta di Parma.
